The Rottweiler Project
Introducing The Rottweiler Project! PDF Print E-mail

The Rottweiler Project was recently launched by the original founder of Hot Water Rescue. Although she is a lover of all Mollosser breeds, over the years her focus became Rotties. Through the years of rescuing, meeting many other Rottweiler enthusiasts, and falling madly in love with the breed - this project was born.

As TRP is new, it has a small number of volunteers but we are eagerly looking to grow. Our focus is multifaceted in an attempt to not only help Rotties when they are in harms’ way, but to prevent that situation to begin with.  While the organization is New England based we see no limits on what we can do and don’t want any boundaries that would exclude any Rottweiler from salvation. That being said we are open to volunteers, adopters, and dogs that are in any location. We know that the more people we connect with and the more people fighting to protect this incredible breed, the faster success will be achieved.

We hope to cover many bases in our plan to alleviate Rottweiler homelessness, abuse, and/or neglect. In our early stages we are focusing on recruiting volunteers and foster homes. Adoption is a major focus for TRP and we take our placements very seriously. All adopters must go through a rigorous screening process and we will do whatever necessary to ensure the dogs safety and happiness for the duration of his or her life. Our goal is to build an magnificent enough group that we will never have to turn a Rottweiler away again.

Education is also an imperative part in the future of the breed, and it goes two ways. There needs to me more education to help people understand why it is presently irresponsible to breed Rottweiler’s, as well as the importance of spay/neuter and providing a loving, permanent home for their Rottweiler. The other side of the educational spectrum is that people who may judge the breed need to open their eyes to magnificent treasure that can be found in the unconditional love a Rottweiler provides. Hand in hand with education is the need for people to organize and fight against Rottweiler BSL (Breed Specific Legislation).

Lastly, we hope and dream to raise the runs to open up a small Rottweiler “house”, That term is used because we don’t want a “kennel”. We want to create a home environment where a relatively small number of Rottweiler’s have a safe, loving home until a forever home can be found. This will be an essential tool in meeting our goal of never turning a Rottie away again. This place will be a small scale, peaceful, free living environment where Rottweiler’s can enjoy each other’s company and the company of new people while they await their new beginnings.
